Me, Marx and Ander

Hello my name is Nadim Mottu! I am a computer science student at the University of Toronto! Thank you for stopping by my website.

I've loved programming since I first discovered it when I was 12 years old. I've always been fascinated by computers, I use to draw my own games and websites on paper. So as you can imagine when I found out that I had the power to make the real thing, it didn't take long for me to dive in.

A great personal interest of mine is open source and computer networking. Indeed, this website is actually being hosted completely independently in a home computer in my Toronto apartment. The code for it can be found on my github along with many of my other projects! If you have any feedback on my code (or even better, on my documentation!) please do not hesitate to open an issue. Community is one of the greatest parts of the work that we do, and as such I always love reading what people think of the projects that I do!

Nowadays while I still love programming and consider it one of my greatest passions, I find myself even more drawn to the underlying mathematical theory behind software. While scalability, robustness are important pillars of software engineering, I find myself much more attracted to the pursuit of elegance and simplicity.

I believe that as computer scientists, it is our duty to think critically not just about the work that we do but of it's wider consequences on the world. Throughout my journey as a computer scientist, I have made it my goal to make the world better with computers. A task that is becoming increasingly more challenging. Between the rise of wasteful inefficient use of generative AI, growing concerns over privacy and data ownership, not to mention the enormous loss of human lives to dangerous working environments employed by the biggest computer manufacturers, the world is seeming more bleak, and it's in no small part because of the industry I belong to. For this reason I am dedicated to conscientious and responsible use of technology. No matter what the job market may look like for people like me, my soul will never be for sale, and if your company treats the world as a product to be exploited then I am not interested in it. If on the other hand you believe in the same future I do, one where we can leverage technology for the good of the world, share our knowledge through open source and create a thieving community, then please reach out to me!

"Either mathematics is too big for the human mind or the human mind is more than a machine."
